Individualized Consultations

Parents are an integral part of the therapy process. An initial parent consultation is conducted at the onset of therapy. This consultation is designed to bring the therapy team and the parents together to develop a meaningful, well thought out program. Goals and objectives are developed in cooperation with the parents. These individualized goals may be adjusted or changed during the course of therapy. Having the cooperation and input from parents is crucial while RDTCI is developing a plan for your child!

Waterside [Dolphins] Therapy Sessions

Depending on the length of the therapy, the children will have on-dock and in-water sessions with the dolphins for the entire duration of their stay at RDT (excluding family swim day and off-days). Each session at the waterside is designed to complement the classroom sessions. The entire process is geared towards specific goals and objectives for your child, including time interacting with the dolphins. On dock sessions include the therapist, trainer, and possibly an intern. Each therapy session (waterside) will last approximately 40 minutes. However, pre-session dock and post session consultation could extend this time to closer to one hour or more.

Daily Meetings

Informal meetings are held daily prior to and usually after each session. This informal parent/therapist meeting ensures that the family is fully aware of changes in goals or objectives. Parents are also encouraged to ask questions, give suggestions and continue to be part of the therapy process. Prior to the last day of therapy, an in-depth consultation is conducted with each family, as well.

General Consultations

Depending on the needs of the child/adult, consultations are available with other staff members. Consultations such as Educational Reviews, Family Relationships, Sibling issues or other therapy components are conducted regularly.

Introduction to Music/Rhythm

Each week we conduct a Music/Rhythm themed session with all of our children and parents. Music is an integral part of the therapy process. Teaching simple rhythm, along with ‘singing and signing’ is a fun and educational segment for all of the families to enjoy.

Classroom Sessions

Classroom sessions are conducted 2-3 times per week, depending on the client’s needs. Each classroom session is designed with the Therapy Plan in mind. Many types of activities are introduced in the classroom setting, including, but not limited to:

  • Educational opportunities including computer applications and cognitive development.
  • Fine and Gross Motor Skill Development
  • Activities of Daily Living
  • Sensory Integration
  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy

Daily Summaries

Comprehensive daily reports are compiled by your child’s therapist documenting the therapy, both in the classroom and on-dock activities. These summaries are included in the final report at the conclusion of the therapy course.

Parent Workshops

RDT currently conducts parent workshops several times a week. Workshop topics include the IEP (Individual Education Plan), Behavior Management, P.E.T. (Parent Education Training), Relaxation Techniques, and many other interesting topics. Workshops that are not scheduled to take place may also be requested by the parents, and held on an individual basis.

Formal Written Report and Recommendation Packet

We provide formal reports along with recommendations to each family. A complete synopsis of the child's/adult's therapy, along with daily session summaries and recommendations are included in the final RDT report.

Photo CD

A personalized photo CD of your child’s experience at RDTCI is also provided to your family on the last day of therapy.
